Halfway up Valle Leventina, 40 km of the wonderful road ?Strada Alta? unwinds through valleys, villages, small towns, streams and brooks, meadows and forests. The ?Strada Alta?, between Airolo and Pollegio or Biasca, at about 1000 m in altitude, offers tourists an unforgettable itinerary, passing through some of the loveliest villages in Canton. Next to the agricultural economy of the mountain, tourism was integrated, little by little.
The entire route of the ?Strada Alta?, which coincides in great part with Gottordo?s ancient muletrack (the ?people?s road?), can be travelled in two or three days. Whoever is short on time can cover just a part of the stretch.
The complete route, however, offers a unique experience with its variety in the landscape and the people along the way. Third leg: Anzonico - Biasca (about 5 hours and 30 min) From Anzonico, passing through Segno, you arrive in Cavagngo. Here, the ?Strada Alta? borders forests and meadows, then goes through a chestnut forest. Suddenly, the bell tower of the small church of Sobrio appears. This is where the romantic part of the excursion begins. The path turns and enters the wild and rocky Vallone gorge, continuing on winding roads to the Alpine cottage in Bitanengo. Going up a little, you arrive at Dicanengo and Conzanego. Then the decline begins and you go from 1000 metres to only 300 metres, arriving at Pollegio (which has a railway station).
